About us
I believe that all Gurganus's from all places and all spelling variations descend from a common ancestor in northeastern NC in the early 1700's. From there they branched out to SC, GA, AL, and other places.
Before NC is anyone's guess -- there is no evidence that I know of to conclusively answer this. One guess is the Edward Gurgany family who came from England in the early 1600's to Jamestown Virginia. But again there's no positive connection here. Even if there were, it's likely that his family wasn't originally English, and no ideas where his heritage came from.
