About us
All males named Guittard, Guitard, Guitar, Guitart, Guittar, Guiter, Guitter, Quittard, Gathard, and similar spellings in France, America, Britain, Spain, Andorra, Portugal, and around the world, are cordially invited to take the Y-DNA test and join this Guittard Family History Y-DNA Study. Female Guittard descendants and other male Guittard descendants not having the Guittard surname can easily participate and advance the Study by recruiting their Guittard-surname father, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, etc., to take the test representing their common Guittard line. They can also take the Family Finder test.
NOTE: THE GUITTARD STUDY HAS FUNDS AVAILABLE FROM TIME TO TIME TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARD TESTING COSTS FOR A GUITTARD LINE NOT PREVIOUSLY TESTED and for special lines where a confirming test is being sought. PLEASE INQUIRE IF THE CONTRIBUTION FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR A TEST ON YOUR LINE.
Generally, the more markers tested, the better the bang for the buck in tracing detail. The starter 37-marker Y-DNA test is a very useful test. The 37m has enough marker detail to avoid false positive matches and provide minimal specific detail sufficient to tell whether two matching testers are probably related. The 67 and 111-marker tests provide progressively more marker data than the 37-marker at a smaller per-marker cost and achieving greater accuracy for long-range tracing. The most powerful and most accurate test for long-range tracing is the Big-Y 700, which can be bought on special or holiday sales from time to time at a substantial discount. But we're always glad to have a 37-marker, and it can typically be upgraded as a Christmas or birthday present to yourself without the need for a new sample.
