About us

This project was begun about 2010 with the goal of connecting the Gravely and similar surname families worldwide. We have not grown significantly since that time, but with the Great Gravely Reunion in 2022 interest has been rekindled in the Gravely surname research. We hope to find yDNA participants form other countries who have documented genealogies that will help us document our country of origin before our ancestors came to America.

We have two representatives of John Gravely SR's son Labon, who died Apr 1814 in Rhea County, Tennessee, USA. We have one representative of John Gravely Sr's oldest son John who continued to live in Pickens, South Carolina, USA until his death about 1881. We also have a descendant of Joseph Gravely SR and James Gravely Jr. who have yDNA tested and match the documented descendants of James Gravely 1718 -1780. We believe James Gravely SR is our immigrant ancestor from England.  Our Gravely Haplogroup is J-M172.       WikiTree genealogy website herehttps://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gravely-303

Also joining this group with his earliest ancestor listed as Michel Gravel b.1560 in France, is Mr. Gravelle who Haplogroup is R-S4031.   We welcome all Gravely males of different surname spelling. We are currently seeking European Gravely males to test

This project is focused on Y-line DNA only, but if you are a female descendant of the Gravely ancestry please obtain permission from a male Gravely surname family member to test.
