A descendant of John Gouge (born 1790) found in the records of Buncombe County, NC and who emigrated to Missouri and later Texas, was found to be a member of the Albemarle Branch of the Gooch family. John's father is likely to be the man found as James (or Jonas) in Henry County, VA tax lists and later in Montgomery, Burke, and finally Buncombe Counties in North Carolina. We still don't know through which son this line is related to William of Albemarle, but as there is no one document that names all of his children, further research may bring to light a new child or perhaps identify descendants of the Claiborne P. Gooch who is associated with this line, but of whom nothing is known.
