About us

December 2015:

Members #335572 and #450425, both descendants of Maj. Lewis Golson, have tested and belong in haplogroup G-M201 (G-M377). A third descendant of Lewis Golson is awaiting results.

March 2016:

Four descendants of Maj. Lewis Golson through his son John Lewis Golson (Lewis Golson Jr.) have tested and all are in haplogroup G-M201 (specifically G-M377). In addition, a descendant of Maj. Lewis Golson through son John Casper Golson has also tested; although not a member of our project, his results are posted to the G2b-M377 project and he matches our four tested descendants. We thus feel confident that Maj. Lewis Golson's haplotype was G-M377 and that his ancestry was Ashkenazi Jewish.

A test of a descendant of Anthony Gholson is currently on order.

April 2016:

Results for a descendant of Anthony Gholson of VA through son William Gholson are in: he is in haplogroup R1b. This is the same haplogroup reported for another Anthony Gholson descendant through son Anthony Gholson Jr. that had tested elsewhere. In addition, a descendant of Hiram Gholson, b 1807 in TN, who tested with another company also falls into this same haplogroup. We thus conclude that Anthony Gholson and Lewis Golson were not related.

August 2016:

A yDNA test for a descendant of Elijah Gholston (b 1829 Marion Co. TN) is currently on order. Preliminary testing with another company suggests that he falls into haplogroup R1b.

September 2016:

Results for the descendant of Elijah Gholston are back. He is in halogroup R1b, but only matches our tested Anthony Gholson descendant at 22/37 markers. They thus do not appear to have shared a common paternal ancestor within a genealogical timeframe (e.g., within the last 1,000 years).
