The Goheen surname project hopes to show the standard genealogy research is true. The earliest Goheen in the colonies was 1719. It is believed that all Goheens in that time period are related. The Goheens of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who moved to Canada, Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia should be related to the Goheens of Chester County, Centre County, Kansas, Washington, and California. It is the hope to acquire participants from all these groups. So far we have a match for a Goheen descendant who's ancestor went to Canada as a Loyalist after the Revolutionary War to a Goheen Descendant who remained in the United States.


Since a Surname Project in essence traces members of a family that share a common surname, and females only acquire a surname by the way of marriage, the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his paternal line (father's father's father's...). The test to be ordered is either the Y-DNA or Y-DNAPlus.
