About us

July 2019

I put the groups results into Robert Casey’s SNP Predictor Tool to see where on the Tree of Mankind they might sit, and Robert predicts that the group falls on the branch characterised by DF41 (with 70-90% probability) thus …

  • R-P312/S116 > Z290 > L21/S145 > DF13 > Z39589 > DF41 / S524 / CTS2501

This particular branch is 4000 years old so it is quite far “upstream” on the Tree of Mankind and ideally we need more people to do SNP testing to identify which branch further “downstream” (i.e. towards the present day) that the Glisson’s of Group I sit upon. You can see this DF41 branch of the Tree here - there are many English, Scottish and Irish descendant lines so Group I sits on some “downstream” branch among them.

Nov 2015:

The project has currently identified 3 Genetic Families among its members. All belong to Haplogroup R1b which strongly suggests a Western European origin for all three groups.

  1. R1b-Group 1 consists of 2 members, one donor-conceived, with origins in England (possibly Dorset).

  2. R1b-Group 2 is Irish with origins in Northern Tipperary. This is the same group as Lineage II in the Gleason/Gleeson DNA Project. More information can be found on the blog for that DNA Project hereThese origins have been confirmed by multiple members having ancestry from this area as well as extensive SNP testing (as of Nov 2015, 6/17 members have been tested on the Big Y).

  3. R1b-Group 3 consists of 3 closely related family members whose common ancestor is a Thomas Glisson from Chester County, Pennsylvania.

More participants are needed to help further elucidate the different origins of the GLISSON surname (and its many variants). It is likely that further subgroups will be identified over time.
