The surname GIRARDIN is widespread in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and the United States. There are several Girardins in Flanders, as well as other parts of Belgium.
In Belgium the GIRARDINs can be traced back in various communities. My own ancestors go back to the early 1700's; they came from Nivers in France but moved to Brussels probably after the French Revolution or in the early 1800's.
Outside Belgium the name is quite common in France, Switzerland and possibly other countries in Europe. Several Girardins migrated to Canada and the United States, and at least one family found its way to Argentina.
The spelling of the name has changed over time. The original spelling may have been GIRARD.
