About us
The Gillard Family DNA Project was started in 2006. I am one of many descendants of Robert Gillard, a French soldier, who was sent to Ireland in August 1798 as part of an expedition led by General Humbert. Robert stayed in County Mayo, marrying Bridget Neary, the daughter of the family who took him in. Our family has wondered about Robert's French origins and, like many families, we have a scarcity of paper trails. The advent of DNA testing can help all of us Gillards know more about our origins and connect many of our families together.
