About us
The Gerhart Project collects DNA results from anymale whose surname is Gerhart-Gerhard-Gerhardt-Gearheart-Gayheart or any othervariant spelling of the ancient name (gari > ger, meaning “spear”; and hard, meaning “hard /strong / brave”). Based on its derivation, it is likely that there is no closerelationship among many of people who hold the name.
Nevertheless, the goal of the project is to collect projectparticipants into related groups mainly for the purpose of assisting genealogistsand family historians with the identification of related families.
Our initial goal is to collect as much Gerhard/t/dt DNA as possible to see if we can begin to create the family groups that surely exist.
