Greetings Cousins, I have been researching my Horry County roots on my father's side and I have compiled 12 surnames on his mother's side (Waller, Strickland, Lewis, Floyd, Nicholls, Chestnut, Flowers, Sessions, Tillman, McKilroy, Wilson, McCracken) using findagrave.com and the Horry County Historical Society website but I have failed to find any connections on his father's side. His father was Paul Octavious Smith (1896-1980) and his remains were interred at Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway. He had an ancestor who was a Revolutionary War veteran who was compensated for his service with, as I remember, 1,600 acres of Horry County, 40 acres of which were still held by his remaining children about 28 years ago. A framed original hand drawn plat map/deed for the land has been in my family's possession. I don't know where the land is or who owns it now as I have lost track of my father's siblings and their families. If you are a descendant of Paul Octavious Smith or you can apprise me of any information about his heredity, please get in touch. The only DNA kit I have is the most recent 23andme which is the wrong format for FamilyTreeDNA who doesn't seem willing to accommodate it. I have a number of cousins with Horry County roots on 23andme.
