About us
Current goals:
Historical goals 2004-2015:
1. To offer anyone with the surname of Freed (and various spellings) the opportunity to determine relationships and origins. Various spellings include (but are not limited to) Freed, Fried, Freid, Friedt, Freet, Freat, and Frid. Countries of origin include at least Germany, England and Scandinavian countries. Those participating in this project are strongly encouraged to order the 67-marker test in order to better delineate family lines within the past 250 years.
2. To discover if the Freeds in southeastern Pennsylvania prior to 1800 are related to each other (as can be clarified by Y-DNA testing).
3. To confirm or disprove the suggestion that the Philip Freed (Philip Fried) who married Regina Bener, New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, PA, April 13, 1749, was the son of Hans Paul Freed. (One website has sons of Hans Paul or "Paulus Friedt" as Peter, Philip, Henry, and Jacob, without any specific documentation.)
4. To find and obtain DNA samples of male-line "Freed" descendants of sons (all born presumably in Montgomery County, PA) of the above named Philip Freed, including Johannes Fried (John Freed, b. 1750, m. Margaretha Graf); Henrich Friderich Freed (Henry Freed, b. ca 1753), Samuel Freed (b ca 1754, m. Maria Mey), Adam Freed (b. 1756), and Joh. Philip Freed (Philip Freed, b. 1760).
