About us

As far as we know, the Fitz Randolphs in North America all descend from Edward Fitz Randolph the Pilgrim. While some descendants have maintained the Fitz Randolph name, many have dropped the Fitz and some adopted at some point a variation of Randolph such as Randall. This project is intended to help us understand better the origins of the Fitz Randolphs while also providing a means for confirming the relationship of suspected descendants of Edward who have the same or a similar surname. In addition to compiling existing relevant Y-DNA profiles for comparison, we would like to consider targeting living descendants representing specific Fitz Randolph branches for Y-DNA testing and full analysis (Big Y) so that we can begin to describe how our Y-DNA 'signature' varies across the branches descending from Edward's five sons and within specific sub-branches such as the Yancey County group. Our initial priority will be to make sure we have at least two Y-DNA profiles for descendants from each of those five sons. Your donations to the fund on this page to cover the costs of this targeted testing would be much appreciated. We envisage this ydna project to be a key component of a constellation of improved Fitz Randolph research resources centered around the Fitz Randolph 'One Name Study' and family tree at Wikitree.com (which is free and accessible to everyone), the earlier information shared and archived at the Fitz Randolph Hub at Spokt.com, and ongoing discussions hosted at the Fitz Randolph genealogy Facebook groups.
