About us
The Faircloth name has its origins in England - in fact, it is widely understood that the name came from the county of Lancashire. The name has several variations, but the original spelling is Fairclough, which today is the typical spelling in England, with Faircloth being the typical spelling in the US. Some of the other variations are Faircliff, Farecloth, Faircloe and many others. The name means "dweller in a fair hollow or cliff."
There are several books written about the history of the Faircloths, and are recommended reading for anyone researching the name. Keep in mind that as time has passed and DNA testing has become more prevalent, some of the information in the books may have been disproved. As always, it is best to follow up and confirm with your own research!
J. Christy Faircloth Judah wrote the following books:
The Faircloth Family Genealogy Resource Guide
Faircloth Family Genealogy - Edward Farecloth Lineage
Faircloth Family Genealogy - William Faircloth I Lineage
In addition, the following book, written by Vivian Mayo Bundy, contains dozens of Faircloths, including my own lineage:
The Descendants of Neil Culbreth of Sampson County and Cornelius Autry of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, and Allied Families
The last book is a huge, hardbound tome with more than 800 pages. If any of you would like something looked up in any of these volumes, please email Kelly Faircloth.
