There is a story floating around that the original Epling in America was 'shanghied in Germany at a very young age and put aboard a ship in Holland bound for America. The supposed reason was that he was heir to a fortune and an estate, and other interests wanted to prevent his receiving it. This would have been in the early 1700's. Perhaps a genetic link to the area or region could support this if records could be found in that area.
