About us

Two members have been tested and shown 11/12 match. In subsequent test upgrade they also matched most of the slow changing markers up to the 25 marker level. Most of the volatile markers were not matched indicating it has been some time since the Most Recent Common Ancestor.(MRCA)

The indication from FTDNA, from the genetic view, is that, if an assumption is made that there is no common ancestor within 500 years, that there is a ~73% probability that the MRCA occured within 1000 years, ie sometime around the Norman Conquest. The common family name increases this probability because surname usage started around the same time.

Both members have numerous close matches to persons with different surnames, presumably from before the use of surnames was common from about 900-1000 years ago. These names are persons closely related (99.9 % genetic relations) but who when surnames became common, were the 'smiths brewers or carpenters' of the village.
