The Duarte DNA Y-DNA Surname Project has been organized for all who wish to work together to find their common heritage through DNA testing and sharing of information. Since females have no Y chromosome, any females with the Duarte surname may have their father, brother, male Duarte uncle or cousin test in their place. Males or females with Duarte as a maternal surname do not themselves have any Duarte Y-DNA but may have their mother's paternal grandfather, father, brother, son (Duarte male cousin) test in their place.
