Isaac Newton Dedrick, b Pennsylvania Sept 1850, m Lucretia ca. 1873*; b Iowa; they had five children, four of whom were living in 1900. Guy was living at home with his parents in Gaylord, Houston Twp., Smith County. Isaac identified in 1900 census as a “Day Laborer” who rented the family’s house. His father reportedly born in Pennsylvania, while his mother said to have been born in Wales. [In 1880 the family was enumerated in Houston Township, where Isaac worked as a farmer. In 1920 Isaac and Lucretia were enumerated in Beaver Twp., 69 and 64 years old, respectively; with them is a 20 year-old grandson, Floyd I. Beam(?), born Kansas. Also enumerated in Beaver Twp., in 1910.]

* Eugene E. Dedrick was 26 years old (b. December 18, 1873, Kansas) and married to Lydia J. (b. June 1878, Kansas; her parents, New York and Iowa) in 1900 (married, ca. 1893). They were living in Beaver Township, Smith County, where Eugene worked a rented farm (#100 on Farm Schedule). Lydia had had three children, all living and at home. [By 1920 Eugene’s family lived in Walnut Twp., Phillips County, where they owned a mortgaged home and apparently farmed his own land (Farm Schedule #53).]

·         Daysy, daughter, two years old (1880), born in Kansas

·         Guy M. Dedrick, b. December 1891(Kansas); he was “at school, and like his parents could read, write, and speak English.

*According to his obituary, Isaac moved to Iowa in 1869, and in 1870 he appears to be enumerated (Blackhawk Twp., Jefferson County, Iowa, June 8, 1870) with an older married brother, William H. Dedrick, a 30 year old farmer from Pennsylvania. Isaac N. was 19 years old and a farmer laborer, also born in Pennsylvania.

Page 1, “Another Pioneer Gone” . . . obituary copied—“Ike” Dedrick was born in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa., to George and Margaret Dedrick on September 10, 1850, and moved with parents to Ohio and then Jefferson County, Iowa, in 1869.

“The body of I. N. Dedrick, who died at Thornburg Thanksgiving evening, was brought here for burial Sunday afternoon. Mr. Dedrick was one of the earliest settlers in this vicinity and for many years was a respected and influential al citizen. About thirty years ago the family moved to the north part of the county where they have since resided. A large number of their former friends were present at the cemetery when the funeral arrived.”

*The day of the week is not included in the masthead, but the previous issue, November 27, 1930, of this weekly carried the official Thanksgiving proclamation, which declared the 27^th to be Thanksgiving Day.

Thornburg, Beaver Twp., Smith County (due north of Smith Center, near Nebraska border).

1880 U.S. Census, Smith Center: Garrett Dedrick, age 53, and wife Nancy, 49, with two sons and a daughter, but they were all born, according to the census in New York. Total of twelve Dedricks enumerated in 1880 Smith County; would not appear to be related to Isaac’s family. (Garrett Dedrick, who reportedly settled in Smith County in 1872, is mentioned in the Smith County Historical Society’s History of Smith County.)
