About us

It has been a most difficult task trying to figure out which of the Virginia Derrys married Mary "Old Moll" Derry. Records and family history can be lost as families grow and move across the country. What we are dealing with is more than two centuries of incomplete and/or lost family records. Many of the family genealogists believe that it was Jacob, son of Baltser Diery-Derry. There is much that we have that points directly to Jacob as the Patriarch of the Pennsylvania Derry line, including "oral family history," "family came from Harper's Ferry at an early day," and PA land referred to as, "Jacob Derry house," and "he (Bazil-b. 1786), was a native of Loudoun County, Virginia, and was a son of Molly Derry, the Fortune Teller of the Revolution", and other bread crumbs left by family members, family researchers and others outside the family. Many times, bread crumbs are all we have. We just follow the trail of crumbs. Such was the case with Jacob Derry, son of Baltser.

Unfortunately, our belief in which of the Virginia Derrys married Old Molly, would not endure the test of time. Belief alone just wasn't enough. We needed definitive proof. Therefore, the creation of the Derry Family DNA Project began in earnest. It has been a little more than two years since the beginning of the Derry Family DNA Project. The project has been a success. A very heartfelt thank you to all who have participated in this project... And, a very special thank you to cousins Joan Brown Derry, and Connie Derry. Without whom, this project could not have been possible.
