About us
I1-S2170+ This is a group for y-DNA results and matches for any and all, direct and/or indirect, relations to the Colonial America surname of Lowe from the England ancestral lines of Derbyshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. These roots are traceable back to the 12th Century ancestral home near Eardiston, in the Lindridge Parish of Worcestershire. There are Lowe lines in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales that can trace their heritage back to this Worcestershire line as well.
We now have Colonial Era lines traced back to Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia/West Virginia.
If you find your kit listed as Haplogroup "I", "I1" or "I-M253" (red indicating an unconfirmed SNP), then you've come to the right place to possibly further your genetic journey with specified testing and finding your own ancestral roots. One of these simple upgrade tests is as low as $39, for SNP I1-S2170. If your Haplogroup is not "I" or "I1", you will not be a match.
As of March 2017, we now know the ancestral European y-DNA for our Colonial Lowes as a result of deep Haplotree Subclade testing of Lowe kit #561987. The results were traceable to the Lowes of Derbyshire, England. These Derbyshire Lowes are downstream of the Haplogroup I1-FGC2491, identified on the I1-S2170 branch. Kempston, Kempson results show very close matches, and are invited to participate as well
In the mid-1600's two brothers and one sister, the children of Vincent Lowe & Anne Cavendish, left their families in Denby Village of Derbyshire to seek out new lives in Colonial Maryland. Jane Lowe (b.1633) came to Maryland in 1661 with her first husband Henry Sewall, and after his death, she remarried Lord Baltimore Charles Calvert. Her brother Vincent Lowe (b.1632) came over about 1672, followed by Nicholas Lowe (b.1639) by 1687. There are plenty of documented sources for these lines in Maryland leading back to Derbyshire and beyond.
You'll also discover, with positive test results, that you are related to ...
- Francis Scott Key, the lyricist of the Star Spangled Banner.
- John Flamstead, the first Royal Astronomer of England.
- The Plantagenet Kings of England, by way of our maternal line.
If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to drop myself (Michael DF Lowe), or one of my administrators, an email. One of us will do our best to help you out!
