This project was begun by Richard Densmore, who was seeking matches to his YDNA genetic test results and genealogy and working to define the origin of his lineage, as well as help others in their research. As so often happens with surname projects, it now includes individuals with various spellings of the surname, different genetic haplogroups, and different genealogies. In addition, there are several members who have a Densmore/Dinsmore/etc in their family lineage, but not in their YDNA male-only line, yet hope to locate their genetic ancestral line here.

The current project administrator, Les Tate, manages five surname projects, but does not have a a Densmore/Dinsmore ancestor. He became involved with this project while helping a Dinsmore friend with his genealogy.
