About us

Margaret Detheridge/Devorage born in 1669 in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, England, is the immigrant ancestor of the Deatherage family in the United States. She immigrated to Virginia in 1689 as an indentured servant. Colonel Christopher Wormeley of Middlesex County, Virginia, purchased her indenture. In 1693 during the term of her service to him Colonel Wormeley or one of his two sons, got Margaret pregnant. Her son born in 1693 was William Deatherage, who has Wormeley Y-DNA, from whom the members of the Deatherage family in the United States are descended. Family history indicates William had five sons (Robert, Philemon, John, Achilles, George) and one daughter (Susan). The paper trail has established that Robert, Philemon, John, and George were brothers. DNA testing supports that Robert, John, George, and Achilles were closely related. The objectives of Deatherage DNA Project are 1) to determine the relationships of Deatherages, Detheridges, and other variant spellings around the world 2) until a Wormeley/Wormley DNA project can be established determine the relationships of that family 3) place Deatherages who have lived or are living in the United States who we have not confirmed as having descended from one of the five sons of William. 4) find the biological parentage of Deatherages who do not carry the Wormeley Y-DNA 5) find the haplogroup for Jhon Ditheridge born about 1604 who lived in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, England Earliest Ancestors Jhon Ditheridge born about 1604 who lived in Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire, England.
