About us

Group 1 Dawtry/Dealtry (Pontefract and Whitgift/Snaith) :-There are now four matching Dawtry/Dealtrys, all have ancestors from the same area in West Yorkshire (Pontefract/Nostell), and the other has ancestors from Whitgift and Snaith. This group  share an ancestor, and the lineage most likely goes back to Ralph Dawtry of Full Sutton who held the advowson there in 1234. The Manor descended in the Dawtry/Dealtry family for hundreds of years. This group are part of a Q Nordic project, and have distant cousin matches in Iceland, Scotland, and Scandinavia .

Group 2  Dawtrey(Halifax)-although sharing a surname, do not have the same Y-DNA as group 1. This could be down to the male line being broken in that area, and the Dawtrey name being carried on through a female of the family. Recent matches with the Berry family from Lancashire and West Yorkshire , and advanced testing confirm shared ancestry around 500 years ago for both, and an older origin in Normandy through other matches.

Group 3  (Sussex) :-1 member so far, showing a new haplogroup,  further testing is needed to define the branch. The Y-line origins of this person from matches appear to be Germanic, possibly Frankish. Records show this line in Petworth ended with a female which would explain the difference with group 1 and 2.

Group 4   Paisnel, Jersey and France)  :-    Another R1b haplogroup which at present is a mystery, but most certainly of hiberno Norwegian/Irish Viking origin, though additional tests would be needed to confirm this. This could be the true male line Paisnel blood, or it could be descent from a female Paisnel ancestor, only by testing other Paisnels from France would we know for sure.
