About us

The Creel Family DNA Project is for all Creels around the world including Creel descendants who would like to learn more & share what they know of their ancestry. Our Creel Family DNA project originally started to document, record and research the history of Creels in America. The earliest record of arrival in Colonial America has been lost or disputed. Current DNA research has lead to solidifying that all Creels tested so far can trace their stories back to the first Y-DNA male Creel who arrived in Colonial North America, as well as and further questioning over his story before his arrival on these shores. We are looking for family members to take part in our Creel Family DNA Project. We are hoping to link through our Y-DNA, Mt-DNA and autosomal DNA lines in order to reconstruct the origins of our various lines. This we do know. The first documented Creels in Colonial America are found in Colonial Virginia. Past research brought to light references to origin in Scotland. Current Y-DNA studies match Creel Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, North and South Carolina descendants with shared Galbraith Y-DNA, a Scottish Clan, as well as other Y-DNA found in affiliated family lines. Charles Creel is recorded as arriving in Richmond, Virginia in 1680 from Scotland. This is the earliest recording of any Creel in America. Learning his story will hopefully unlock the mystery of our Creel Family around the World. When you join, please share what you know about your Creel family tree so that we may trace our greater family stories through time. You might also consider joining our Creel Tree & DNA Project Facebook Group. Thank you and let's time travel together.
