About us
The surname Correia (some time appearing in its archaic form Correa), meaning leather strap, can be traced back to its founding father D. Soeiro Pais Correia, master of Solar de Fralães.
D. Soeiro Pais Correia, a nobleman from XI century Portugal/Galizia (Portugal wasn't yet an independent kingdom), got his surname when while besieged the Moors in Montemor-o-Velho, he and his men were forced to eat their horses leather straps (correias).
This project seeks to, by looking at the Y chromosomes of men with the Correia last name, try and see if there really is a dominating common heritage the can be traced back to D. Soeiro.
