About us
The Combs & Harding etal Group is developed for anyone descending from or interested in the two connecting lines of Combs and Harding and others under the Haplogroup FT86565. The Combs Line descends from two sons and one daughter of Joseph Combs of Stafford Virginia: Joseph and Elizabeth Harrison Combs; John and Seth Bullitt Combs; or John and Jane Combs Ashby. The Harding Line has a focus on six Hardin/Harding men with no record of parentage. Four of the men are connected by DNA testing and the other two by association. They are William Harding and Clarissa Million; Benjamin Hardin and Nancy Routt; Enos Hardin and Martha Ashby (Enos is a brother to Benjamin); Evangelist Hardin; James Hardin and Hanna Berry; Joseph Hardin.
This group will focus on yDNA, aDNA, mtDNA, and clear research to fulfill three primary goals: 1) to genetically distinguish the two Combs descendant lines through John and Joseph II and the five or less descendant lines of the Hardings. 2) to help all family members of these groups find their ancestors. 3) to discover early ancestors of the Combs and Hardings and find where and how they are connected.
As a male or female member, you are encouraged, not required, to upload (example: Ancestry DNA) or purchase an FTDNA (Family Finder) test. If you are a male or female member with a direct maternal line to a Combs or Harding Female of this line you are encouraged to purchase a mtDNA test through FTDNA. If you are a male descendant of Joseph Combs of Stafford Va. or of the six Harding men, you are encouraged to purchase a YDNA test to join our DNA group. The Y111 and Y67 are better but test as you are able. The FTDNA Big Y test is the best test available now that includes the Y111 test and allows us to determine the different descending branches of the Combs and Hardings.
