THE COLDHAM SURNAME PROJECT WWW.FTDNA.COM
The COLDHAM lineage is an ancient one, of possibly Frankish origin. The (proto) Coldham entry into Britain before the time of the usage of surnames
It is thought to have occurred in the reign of King Cnut in the early 1000's AD and in the area of Warwickshire.
I INVITE & WELCOME ALL COLDHAM's AND ANY Y-COUSINS (OF ANY SURNAME) WHO ARE MATCHED TO ME WITH MORE THAN A 25 MARKER OVERLAP AT FTDNA
or LESS THAN A GD=2 AT YSEARCH, TO JOIN THIS PROJECT. THE AIM IS TO UNCOVER THE EARLY PHYLOGENY OF THE DE COLDHAM's, AND THE GENETIC CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ARDEN's AND THE MOHAUT's (MONTALT's); as well as the broader genetic framework of this cluster.
THE NORFOLK COLDHAM's ARE THOUGHT TO BE ONE OF THE LAST EXTANT REMNANTS OF THE mediaeval MOHAUT LINE---and are therefore a rarity.
The story of the genetic origin of the COLDHAM's 800 years ago is an enduring mystery.
PAPERTRAIL: My particular COLDHAM paternal bloodline is traceable from Daniel Coldham b. 1715, Ridgewell, Essex.
However there are thought to be at least two (2) major Coldham lines from ca. 1200 AD
LINE A (namely, the ARDEN-COLDHAM line) the "parent" line.
LINE B thought to be the MOHAUT-COLDHAM line, a branch line of A.
