About us
The Cloyd project has been organized for descendants, or suspected descendants, of John Cloyd, Ninian Cloyds father from Antrim, Ireland. Ninian Cloyd preceded his father John to America shortly before 1758 where he settled in Augusta County, Virginia. One of the goals of this project, other than to add validity to the descendants of Ninian Cloyd, is to gather samples from, primarily, the U.S. and the U.K. in an effort to help bridge the gap between Ireland, where genealogy records cease, and Great Britain. Ultimately our goal is to determine the roots of Ninian and his forebears but all Cloyds are welcome.
There are two main-stream theories regarding the origins of Ninian - Scotland and England via Wales. Regardless of any eventual outcome from this project, all members are requested to remain open to the discovery of either possibility.
