About us
The Project is designed to bring together Keegan, Egan, McKeegan, Eagan and other variations descended from clan founder Aedhagain and ultimately show groupings of which septs we are descended from.
Our research along with that of the Dal Cuinn shows that the original Clann MacAodhagain was part of the Ui Maine which was in turn part of the Connachta.
The Connachta is defined by the DNA of R-DF104 and their descendants include the Ui Maine, Ui Niall and Ui Briunn.
The Ui Maine can be defined by the DNA of R-M222 > R-DF104 > A18726.
The main chiefly line from Aedhagain Mor comes from A18726 > R-BY198 which comprises the historic Seven Septs of the Clann MacAodhagain. We also find others bearing the name Keegan and Egan who are also Ui Maine under the umbrella of A18726 > A259 this may indicate descent from another cousin called Aedhagain or a fellow Ui Maine relative adopting the clan name MacAodhagain.
Aims:
- To identify the deeper origins of our MacAodhagain lineages
- To group together those Sept lineages that are shown to be closely related
- To ascertain whether or not regional groupings of these lineages are apparent
- To assist in clarifying relationship uncertainties in the early records
- To serve as a forum where participants can compare results
Upon joining Keegan, Egan, McKeegan, Eagan and other variations descended from clan founder Aedhagain who have undertaken FTDNA BigY700 testing will be placed in the Ollamh Line, Groups 1 - 7, or in Group 8, R-BY198 Parallel Keegan Line, or Group 9 R-A259 Parallel Keegan / Egan Line.
Keegan, Egan, McKeegan, Eagan and other variations Testers of who have not undertaken Bigy700 testing such as Y37 to Y111 will be placed in the Group 10/ R-BY198 Predicted. This Group has no Location or Genealogical Line reference. Should Testers in this Group upgrade to BigY700, they will be moved to the relevant Group.
