About us

The Carrington name is found in England and the families came to the US Colonies in the 1600s and into the 1700s.

The goal of the project is to identify and group the various Carrington lines wherever they may exist.

There is an early record from James Camden Hotten's list of emigrants from England of a Thomas Carrington being sent to New England in June 1632.  This maybe the earliest Carrington in the colonies.

There are two Carrington lines that I have researched, one in Virginia descending from George Carrington who was born in Barbados, and a second line in the 1750s for a John Carrington found in North Carolina.  The North Carolina line has not been connected via the DNA testing to Barbados Carringtons or to the Virginia line. I descended from the John Carrington line and look forward to establishing my DNA identity.

It should be noted, that in the Virginia Carrington families, the Carringtons were found to have over 900 slaves according to the slave census data.  There may be descendants of these slaves who may or maynot have a Carrington surname, who wish to established their male Carrington ancestor.

I will try to group FTDNA project members according to where their first Carrington ancestor was found.   For my own testing, I have DNA Y37 and DNA Y67 matches with family names of Roberts, Mangum, and Ridings.  The Mangum and Roberts individuals do not match anyone in their respective FTDNA Family Name Project.

I have a DNA Y67 match with a confirmed Carrington who descends from my John Carrington, North Carolina line.
