About us
Hello and welcome to the Cavazos surname project! This group is intended to research the Cavazos surname through Y-DNA testing as well as genealogical research. The two go hand in hand on discovering our deep history of the Cavazos name. Many Cavazos are descended from Juan Cavazos del Campo who left Spain in the early 17th century and settled in Mexico (New Spain). Here his lineage proliferated over the centuries and many of his descendants lived in Nuevo Leon and moved north and helped found the Spanish colonies along the Rio Grande River.
With the help of Y-DNA we are able to determine which haplogroup the Cavazos family belongs to. If you are a Cavazos male, please take the Y-DNA test to help us build our DNA database for our Cavazos name. Y-DNA is only passed from father to son. The Cavazos name is under the Haplogroup RM269 which covers most of Europe. We have found two subclade Haplogroups that the Cavazos family comes from. With your help, we can further our research. If you are a Cavazos but you are a female, find a male Cavazos in your family that is a direct male descendant of your Cavazos ancestor. The best scenario is to test your oldest relative, if possible.
If you or your male relative had their Y-DNA tested, please add your Cavazos paternal lineage to our Google Spreadsheet. This helps us figure out which lines come from which subclade Haplogroup. Here is the link: Cavazos Paternal Lineage Spreadsheet It is also located under the Links tab. If your last name isn't Cavazos but your DNA matches to many other Cavazos' or your ancestor was adopted and their real name was Cavazos, please feel free to add your lineage as well. We are here to help each other and see how we are related.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us!
