About us

Casper Byerley who immigrated to Charleston, South Carolina in October of 1752 is my ancestor.  While the paper trail has helped me identify his sons, it has not allowed me to connect him to other Byerley's who also settled in America in the 1700's nor has it allowed me to connect him back to his pre American homeland.   My hope is that DNA testing can provide clues as to where he came from and any connections to others who share the same surname.  While the focus will be on Y-DNA testing, those who tie directly back to a daughter of Caspar Byerley of South Carolina are welcome to join and submit their MTDNA results.

Those with Family Finder results that have a connection to the Byerly surname are also welcome to join.

This project is open to all individuals with ties to this surname or any variations from any location.  The variations I know of are as follows:

BARLEY, BERLEY, BERLY, BYERLEY, BYERLY, BYARLEY, BYRLEY, BIERLY, BIERLEY, BRIERLEY, BAYERLEY, BEYERLE

Some other early American Byerley ancestors include:

  • Johann Jacob Byerley (Beyrle) born circa 1700 in Kandel, Germershein, Rhindland-Pfalz, Germany.  He arrived on the ship Dragon in September of 1752 and died December 1771 in Davidson County, North Carolina.
  • Andreas Byerley (Beyerle) born 26 June 1713 and died in 1775 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  He arrived in 1738 on Charming Nancy.
  • Casper Byerley of Pennsylvania.
