About us

Long-time Bullock project admin Jim Bullock passed away in 2022, and the project sat idle. New project admins Bob Bullock, Kim Bullock Samar, and William Watson adopted the project in the summer of 2024. They have organized new subgroups for Y-DNA results and added links to the project pages. Check out the other project pages for news and information about Y-DNA results.

FTDNA has also started providing Y-DNA haplogroups for men with FamilyFinder and other autosomal test results. Those can suggest the family that those men may belong to, but only Y-STR results can confirm matching in project subgroups, and only analysis of Big Y results can prove connections between groups and provide good estimates of MRCA birth years.

Men who have tested elsewhere (Ancestry, 23andMe, MyHeritage, or LivingDNA) can download raw data from any of those sites and upload to FTDNA to get updated Haplogroups, typically from the "metal ages" (last 3000-5000 years), rather than the stone ages predicted from only Y-STR results.
Check out the Links page for information about downloading data and "autosomal transfers."
