About us

This is the new Buckner DNA study group. The broad purpose is to use DNA information to figure out the early history of the various Buckner families. We are rebuilding after another genealogy website, which will remain nameless, deleted all of their DNA study groups, so we don't have as much data as we used to, but we at least still have our old analytical results. At this time, it is possible to identify the immigrant ancestor of perhaps 50% of Buckners in America based on a 37 marker YDNA test (don't waste your money on a 12-marker test), and we are continually refining our results. Note that at this time, we really only have analytical results for YDNA (patrilineal descent), so if you're looking to use mtDNA or autosomal DNA, the trails still need to be blazed.

In terms of historically useful YDNA data that we still need, several Buckner lines are particularly important to sorting out the various Buckner immigrants. Those are descendants of Anthony Buckner of Halifax Co. VA (d. 1780), basically any descendants of Caroline County Virginia Buckners, and really it would be great to see some tests from outside America (e.g. England, Jamaica, Nigeria), since we think we know what the original ancestral Buckner haplotype looked like.
