I'm Dave Bruns, from kit 172452. My great-grandfather was Johann Hermann Anton Bruns, geb. 14 Dez 1842 in Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany. From the church records of the Evangelische Church in Emden (aka Lutheran) he was born out of wedlock. His mother was Friederike Bruns. I have no birth or death records for her. The father's name was not listed in the church registry. If you have information about Friederike Bruns or the Bruns family in the Emden or Aurich or Emsland area, I would appreciate any information you could share. 850.321.3350. I have a lot of information about the Bruns family in the U.S. but only Johann Hermann Anton Bruns in Germany. (So far! :) )

Hello! My Y-DNA kit (B259204) has been completed and added to the DNA results page. I have a well researched Bruns pedigree in the US, originating with Johann Wilhelm Bruns (b. 1810 Menslage, Germany) who emigrated to St Charles, MO in 1839 (likely enticed by the travel writings of Gottfried Duden). I do not know how to interpret the results of my test but am excited to have another data source. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I would like to ask the administrator a question please. I joined this group on the 25th of September and now know I have a Haplogroup of R-M269. I was quite excited to see 2 others in the group with the same result. In particular kit number 172452. This may be a stupid question but how do I contact this group member? Regards Andrew Bruns

number 5 is 229974 who has tested to r-z283.In his case he does not descend fromr-m269.the common ancestor with him would be R-M173.

number 6 is n78231 and he has tested to R-L664.again he is not R-m269 and the common ancestor would probably be R-m173

The final number 7 is 148544 who has tested I-m233 which is a completely different haplogroup.

My conclusion would be that these ydna markers listed so far are so long before the introduction of surnames that the tested haplogroups would have to be much closer before any relationship can be considered.even so the group is very small now but as it grows this might change.

For those of you who are of French Canadian ancestry, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the French Heritage DNA Project. The descendants of Vincent Brun have had their DNA verified. He is my direct ancestor and my brother's Y-DNA was tested as part of the project.
