Tracing the Genetic Heritage of James Brissey and Charity Humphrey Brissey.
This project aims to delve into the ancestral roots of James Brissey and Charity Humphrey, while also uncovering valuable information through the analysis of Y-chromosomal DNA (YDNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA).
Through research of the historical background of the Brissey family, it has been discovered that the family can be traced back to James Brissey, who is believed to have been born around 1776, most likely in Virginia. On January 19, 1808, James Brissey married Charity Humphrey at the Mt. Poney Baptist Church in Culpeper, Culpeper County, Virginia. After their marriage, they moved to the Bridgeport area of Harrison County, Virginia/West Virginia. Together, they had five children who survived infancy: James (1809-1810), Harriet (1811), Margaret (1815-1816), Mary Ann (1821), and Amanda Rebecca (alternatively known as Rebecca Amanda) (ca 1823), who all have children. James is the only direct line YDNA descendent of his father.
