1. Does it cost to join this group?
a. If you tested with ,there is to join this research group.
b. If you tested with ,or , MyHeritage, you can transfer your raw data for and join this group.
c. If you want to help in this research and have not tested, then please contact the Project Administrator with your Family History.
2. I am on Ancestry, why can’t you just look there?
a. Ancestry is a great tool, but matches from Family Tree DNA, does not show up on Ancestry results unless the tester has paid testing from the both companies.
b. Ancestry test only one kind of DNA, which is Autosomal DNA. FamilyTreeDNA can test your Autosomal, Ydna, and Mtdna therefore providing three avenues to prove or disprove a DNA connection.
3. I am not related to this family surname,why did I receive an invitation email to join this group?
a.Invitations are sent out by the because you have matched at least two confirmed Brinley /Brindley/Brindlee testers.By joining the group, the Project Administrators can possible determine who the common ancestor is and possible confirm or deny if your DNA match is from a Brinley/Brindley/Brindlee Descendant.
b. You match one of the testers in the group at a high rate, and we are trying to solve the age-old question of how are we related.
4. What happens after I transfer my data or join your group?
a. If you transfer your DNA data, the first thing that will happen for you, is that you will
receive additional matches for free that will help you in researching your own family.
b. For the research project, it will allow the access to see your matches. By
analyzing your results, and being able to compare your results with others in the group, the
may be able to find the common ancestors that ties you to the other
people inthe Research group.
For Example: 3 group testers Author, Julie, Unk and non group member John Doe B
Author Brindley matches John Doe A
John Doe B
John Doe C
Julie Brindley
Unk Brindley matches John Doe A
John Doe B
Julie Brindley matches Author Brindley
John Doe B
Only the would see that all three testers match John Doe B.Even though Unk Brindley does not show up matching Author or Julie, they still have a common ancestor with John Doe B, which makes Author,Unk , and Julie connected.
c. When a connection is made, confirmations are sent out via email and Familytreedna.com.
5.I know that I am related to a member of the group, but he/she does not show up in my matches, how can I contact them?
a. As a member of the group, you have access to the members email address.
b. Place a message on the message board.
c. Contact the admin and they will try to contact the member for you.
6. Why is there a donate button?
a. The donate button is there for anyone to donate money for future testing.
b. There are times when the Project Administrators find someone through traditional
genealogy that is unable to afford DNA testing.
c. Funding can be designated for a specific line.
d.Funding is handled through FamilytreeDNA.com account, and is for testing only.The
do not have access to the funding other than to pay for test ordered. See below for additional info on Donating.
About the Brinley/Brindley/ Brindlee General Fund
The money available in the General Fund is provided by those would like to help further the DNA research within this project.

The project administrators prefer donations via electronic submission through this website.
All money donated to this project through this website is held by FTDNA for use in the project.
Donor Information:
· You do NOT have to designate a specific testing interest when you donate
· Donors may contribute to the project's general fund to assist with the cost of future testing.
· Donors may designate which a specific ancestor line the donation is to assist
· Donor information is not displayed for public view at this time.
Electronic Donations:
When you click on the donation button, on the Brinley page, it will take you to the page. There are instructions for donations.If you scroll down, you will see an area to start entering your information. If the Brinley group is not the highlighted choice:
1. Enter the letter B then select the group name Brinley
2. Enter donation amount
3. Choose a donation type
4. Enter a Donor Name. (Do not enter your name if you want to be anonymous)
5. Although no note is necessary, do specify if you want your donation to be used in a specific way.
6. Click on the“PayPal” button, then follow the instructions.
