About us

e-mail: bbradway@nycap.rr.com Two 3rd generation Bradway (Broadway) brothers, Jeremiah and Richard, sons of Thomas [2] Bradway (Broadway), removed from Smithfield RI to the Lanesborough and Cheshire area of Berkshire County prior to or about the time of the Revolutionary War. Both appear to have had large families and each gave their sons (and probably some daughters) similar names. With the exception of Richard, whose son Abel b. 1760 was recorded in Smithfield before they moved, neither one had any of their children recorded in the Massachusetts vital records. Neither man left a probate record naming their children. No Bible records have been found to show the births of children and as they were members of the Baptist Church, no church records found thus far name their children. By 1810, many adult male Bradways (or Broadways) begin to appear in New York State as heads of families. With one exception, these early NY Bradways (Broadways) all appear to be the children (or, in a few instances, possibly grandchildren) of Jeremiah [3] and Richard [3] Bradway (Broadway). We now have matches with descendants of Jeremy Bradway of Washington Co. NY, descendants of Sylvanus Bradway of Genesee Co. NY, but NO MATCH to Edward Bradway of New Jersey.
