the Borowski Surname was documented as early as the XII century in its current form, in Polish. (Since the Archives are not fully digitized yet, an earlier appearances would not be surprising).
Contradicting the Popular Belief of a Common Borowski ancestor are the Historical Polish Nobility (Szlachta) Sources. there most probably will not be found a single Common Borowski male Ancestor. but our Hope is that the Numerous Existing Branches in the Quite big and Numerous Borowski Trees could be traced and found together with their specific common ancestors. for that we need the participation of Documented and of Noble clan Borowski Members. by Locating the Specific Clannic Coat of arms and its Distinct Y-Haplogroup we could learn about the Sublime connections between various Borowski families and their Clans Origins.
by no means, not all Borowski families originated in Historical Poland.
we at least know about German, Czech, Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Russian originating Families.
as for the Polish Noble (Szlachta) Borowski families were mentioned in various sources 21-23 families each under a different Clan with it's Coat of Arms.
This Project aims also to help Borowski family members of unknown Origins or those who lost paper trail track (Due to Historical Events of the past 200 years) and had no luck in tracing their Family Origins. the More Documented Results we Collect, the easier we could point about possible Family ties to Known and Documented Branches.
As for other Ethnicities, Borowski/Borovsky families of Jewish origins were Mentioned and the family name is also present among Jews. though the origins of their family branches are Unknown and Yet to be Discovered.
We Recommend the Participants Joining the Project to test for at least 37 (Preferably 67) Y-Dna Markers.
though probably non-related to the Borowski families, we also Welcome Participants with Surnames such as: Zborowski, Zaborowski etc.
Since this group is of Y-DNA Surname Project Nature, we can not offer any further analysis of Mtdna samples tested through us, though we will make a public Mtdna results section for the Benefit of those who believe they are tied to Known Borowski Females or would like to further investigate their Matrilieneal Borowski origins.
