About us
Presently, two participants descend from colonial families in Pennsylvania. Kit number 5580 descends from Nicholas Bobb, who came from Germany and died in June 1817 in Cumberland County, PA. We know that he was living in Cumberland County in 1795. The second participant 5666 descends from Peter
One set of matches is Haplogroup G. This line has shown three different spellings. Bobb, Bubp, and Bupp have all matched at the 37 marker level.
There are also participants with the Bobb surname who are haplogroup R. They are not closely related to each other, but they did not live far from each other. The R haplogroup participants descend from the same line in Snyder County, PA. Autosomal DNA is showing links between the two families. Perhaps there was an adoption of a male with the R Haplogroup into the Bobb family. The R haplogroup ancestor was born 16 Aug 1781 in Beaver Twp., Northumberland, PA, and married Wilhemina Hassinger. We can see that the first two Bobb families tested are not related.
The Bopp surname results have not matched any of the Bobb surname results, but our database is still small. Bopp ancestry results are being tracked on a separate project at
