This project was launched in 2003 by the late Joe David Bellamy. Joe was a prolific researcher and widely respected author of several books, including The Bellamys of Early Virginia, Island in the Sky, and Kindred Spirits. The goal of the project is to leverage Y-DNA testing to advance our understanding of the various Bellamy families found around the world and help participants learn more about their specific connection into these family lines. Of these lines, the branches coming out of colonial Virigina and South Carolina are the largest and best known. But there are others (and of course our knowledge is never complete), so we welcome all with interest to join, contribute, and learn. Joe's sudden passing in 2014 was a shock to us all and left the DNA project without an administrator. Just as Joe helped me and others verify connection into the larger body of Bellamy genealogy, I'm hoping to serve as a helpful resource for others in their DNA journey as the project's new administrator.
