The Avitts line of the founders is in the R1a1b haplogroup and now has several matching kits. There are common ancestors for at least two of the sets. Others do not match to these two ancestor nor is their yet a common ancestor uniting all the kits. There is historical research underway to identify that ancestor.

It is now apparent that a distinct line in the R1a1a haplogroup. This group also has a diversity of spellings of the surname, but spelling similarities to the other group. So it appears wise to continue to include both groups in this project.
