The Auerbach Surname Study was initiated because of my own frustrations in linking my Auerbach family (which had an oral and written tradition of generations of rabbis)to any of the well researched rabbinical Auerbach families.

The variant name spellings as well as gaps in historical documentation created a situation in which I needed to look into alternate methods of determining family links. Y-DNA testing appealed to me because it provides scientific validation of links as well as scientific proof when a link DOES NOT exist.
