About us

The goal of America's Founding Fathers Y-DNA Project is to identify the unique Y-DNA genetic signature of the historically significant lineages of America's Founding Fathers, by testing pedigreed paternal descendants of these lineages. These Y-DNA genetic signatures may then be utilized to identify previously unknown descendants of these historic American lineages, who may not have well-documented paper trails. The project is open to all paternal descendants of America's Founding Fathers, and their genetic matches, for whom there are either no specific FTDNA group projects, or for whom there are no FTDNA projects which focus on the specific family line which descends from one of the Founding Fathers. For example, there is an FTDNA Hart surname project, but this project contains many Hardt, Hart, Hartt, Heart, Hearte, O'Hart, and other unrelated, non-pedigreed lines, and does not focus solely on the Hart lines which descend from John Hart, the Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Such broad surname projects do not provide the type of detailed Y-DNA testing data or information from pedigreed descendants necessary to identify the Y-DNA genetic signature of the specific lineage of interest. This project welcomes all pedigreed paternal descendants of America's Founding Fathers who are interested in exploring their American heritage through sharing of Y-DNA test results and genealogical information. Pedigreed descendants who can provide proof of son-after-son descent from America’s Founding Fathers may qualify for research discounts on Y-DNA tests of STR and SNP markers, as well as on Big Y tests.
