About us
The Abkhaz and Abaza are ancient peoples of the Caucasus, speaking the languages of the Abkhaz-Adyghe group. Their history dates back thousands of years, going back to the Bronze Age. These ethnic groups have preserved their unique culture, language and identity despite numerous historical challenges.
Goals of the Abkhaz-Abaza DNA Project:
1 - To study the genetic diversity of Abkhaz and Abaza, including various sub-ethnic groups.
2 - To study the genetic links between Abkhazians and Abazins living in the historical homeland and in diasporas.
3 - To analyse the influence of the genocide of the XIX century and subsequent historical events on the genetic structure of the population.
4 - To identify possible genetic markers associated with the unique cultural and linguistic features of these peoples.
5 - To contribute to the preservation and study of the genetic and cultural heritage of Abkhazians and Abaza.
6 - To restore lost family ties between representatives of the people in different countries.
