Description
All are welcome to join this project, including those descended from Siebert lines. Only males have Y-chromosomes*, so only direct male lineage testing will be useful to prove descent, connect family lines, and assist in genetic genealogy connections. If you are female*, you can have a male relative (in your SEVIER-SEAVER-SEVER direct line) submit a sample. As before, this is a YDNA Project, however, members with known SEVIER-SEAVER-SEVER matrilineal descent are welcome to join--perhaps we can discover a SEVIER-SEAVER-SEVER mDNA haplogroup or two!
All spelling variations are welcome--there are so many as the SEVIER-SEAVER-SEVER people came from and through so many different countries and ports before settling in or arriving at their final destinations. Some variants include: SEVIER, SEVIERS, SEVIAR, SAUVER, SEVERE, SIVIER, SEVERS, SEIVERS, SIVYER, SEVERS, SEAVER, SEVEIR, SAVER, SIEVERS, SEVIOR, SEVIOUR, SEEVIOUR, SEEVER, SEEVERS, SEVYEAR, SAVIER, SAVIOR, SAVIERS, SEVER, SAUVEUR, and many other variations. Some versions included the final -s and some did not. Sometimes from one generation to the next this changed!
To participate meaningfully, testees will need to share their direct male line ancestry back to the earliest known SEVIER-SEAVER-SEVER etc. in their line, in the form of a pedigree (excluding living persons). The most limited form of project sharing is also helpful, but this is always at user discretion.
Welcome and thank you for joining!
*It must be noted that exceptions exist for everything, and chromosomal disorders are definitely an exception when it comes to X and Y chromosomes
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
