Description
The Flanders-Flemish genetic ancestry website is open to any person with earliest known ancestry from Flanders.
The goals of this project are to assemble in one place on the www, area specific DNA, both Y chrom and mtDNA of Flemish people and their ancestors with the associated Surnames.
This site will be developed on an ongoing basis based on contributions from people whose early ancestry origins are Flemish. Everyone meeting this criterium are welcome to join.
The list of surnames below will be updated continously to show typical or common Flemish surnames. Initially and generally this project is for all people with Flemish origins, but over time we may establish specific geographical sub area projects e.g. for Brabant, Antwerp, Limburg, West-, or Oost Vlaanderen, similar to other geographical projects for countries near Flanders.
If you have already been tested by FTDNA or are in the FTDNA system via transferring your data from the National Geographic Society Genographic Project go to your personal account page at FTDNA and click on the blue JOIN group button in the upper right banner section then select the Flanders project.
FTDNA allows a person to join multiple projects at its site.
You must agree that results of the test will be allowed to post at this project on Flanders-Flemish DNA. It is suggested to also join your specific surname project and to upload your DNA to Y-Search and Mitomap, public data bases that allow to find matches.
If you have a pedigree chart of your family, please email the administrator a copy of your pedigree chart or of the documentation on your Flemish ancestry.
Requirements
A Geographic Project connects individuals who believe their direct line comes from a specific location. The Dual Geographic Projects are for individuals who order an mtDNA or Y-DNA test. Either their direct maternal line (mother's mother's mother's...) or direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) originates from this area.
