Description
You have traced your Durrett ancestor back to Virginia. Which one is your ancestor? Richard, John, Bartholomew, Francis or William? Or is it someone yet to be identified? This project has been set-up to identify Durrett family lines in Virginia and to find out where our ancestors migrated to once they left France. Please sign up to assist us with this effort to determine where in France the Durrett lines originated. We would love to have those with the Durrett Surname from around the world join our project to find our common male ancestor. The project is open to all spelling variations of the SURNAME DURRETT.

Now you need to decide which DNA test is right for you.
Please consider the following before ordering your DNA Kit.
1. Y-DNA test are for Males with SURNAME or LAST NAME Durrett. Father’s pass their Y- chromosome to their son. OR 2. Mt-DNA is for females ONLY - This test looks at your maternal lines only on your Mother's side of the family the surname Durrett. Your maternal line must have the surname Durrett. OR 3. Family Finder which looks at both the Female and Male lines up to 4 to 5 generations.

When ordering your test, please tell me if this is a Y-DNA (and the name of the male doing the testing, his surname is important because our Project is for men with the SURNAME Durrett), mt-DNA female being tested must have the Surname Durrett. I will approve both tests but I need to know which one you are planning to join before approval.

Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
