Description
Welcome!
Thanks for taking a moment to visit. If you are a male with surname (last name) McCorkle (or any of its variant spellings), please consider joining the study.
Purpose
I offer this DNA study as a forum for all McCorkle researchers to compare their traditional genealogical research to the results indicated by DNA comparisons. Some research will be proven; perhaps some will be disproven. In some cases, disjointed branches will be linked, thus validating the need for future research. Whatever the results, I'm sure they will be rewarding and beneficial to the larger McCorkle genealogical body of knowledge.
Objectives
Initially, I plan to focus my efforts on recruiting McCorkles in America, with special emphasis on descendants from the line that runs through Mecklenburg NC in the early 1700s. However, I don't take the perspective that I own this study: it's yours. I'm just the host. So come one, come all. Let's see where the research takes us!
Variant Spellings
The McCorkle surname has many variant spellings. Rest assured, all are welcome and encouraged to join.
Latest Results
We now have four participants. All participant results are very close to the highly-common Western Atlantic Modal Haplotype. To truly distinguish the McCorkles in the study so far, it is desirable to upgrade all participants to 67 markers.
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
