The BLIGH DNA Project is open to all who are interested in working together to find their common BLIGH heritage through sharing of BLIGH information and BLIGH Y-DNA testing results. We hope to see how descendants of the surname BLIGH have integrated themselves throughout the world. Our BLIGH DNA Project traces members of a family that share a common surname, BLIGH, or a variant of the surname BLIGH. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for BLIGH males taking a Y-DNA test. This patrilineal Y-DNA surname study is designed to test the Y-DNA profiles of members of the various BLIGH families found originally in Cornwall and Devon, England, including descendants of 'transplants' to, Canada, Australia, Ireland, the United States, and around the world. The focus of the study includes all variant spelling of BLIGH the families listed below. If your name is on that list, we are most interested in having you participate in our Y-DNA male surname testing program. All variant spellings are welcome. Our goal, ultimately, is to find the founding forefather/fathers of our surname BLIGH and all the variant spellings of BLIGH. We will be able to do this by collecting the Y-DNA test results provided to this project by members, thus finding our common ancestors. Then many people around the world with the BLIGH surname might be able to, in the near future connect biologically with their relatives of their forefathers. The first purpose of our BLIGH project is to clarify individual family origins of the different branches of the BLIGH name. The second purpose of our BLIGH project is to create a map of the migratory patterns of the BLIGH surname from England/Ireland to other countries of the world where the surname of BLIGH is found.

Requirements

A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
